MFA Method
Overview
When you sign into any app or resource protected by Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), you are required to verify your identity using an additional method beyond your password. This guide walks you through how to view, add, update, or remove your MFA methods using the Microsoft Security Info portal.
Applies to: Staff Faculty Students
⚠ Before You Begin
You must have access to at least one existing MFA method to log in to the Microsoft Security Info portal. The portal requires MFA verification before allowing you to add or change any methods. If you are locked out of all MFA methods, contact the Solutions Center for assistance.
⚠ Upcoming Microsoft Policy Change
MFA Requirement: MFA is required for all active employees (Faculty and Staff). MFA is currently optional for students; however, students are highly encouraged to opt-in and configure MFA to add an extra layer of protection to their accounts.
Beginning February 2027, Microsoft will discontinue all SMS/phone call verification options. Moving forward, the Microsoft Authenticator App or Passkeys will be the only accepted MFA methods. We recommend setting these up now if you have not already done so.
Step-by-Step Guide
Instructions
1 Navigate to the Microsoft Security Info Portal
2 Sign In and Complete MFA Verification
Log in using your Columbia College credentials and verify your identity with an existing MFA method.
●Enter your username@ccis.edu and password.
●Complete the MFA prompt using one of your currently registered methods to proceed.
3 Add, Update, or Remove an MFA Method
Once logged in, you will see all of your currently registered authentication methods. From here you can manage them as needed.
●Add a method: Click Add sign-in method and follow the on-screen prompts to register a new device or phone number.
●Update a method: Select the method you wish to change and follow the prompts to update the associated device or number.
●Remove a method: Click Delete next to the method you wish to remove. Ensure you always have at least one active method remaining.
💡 Recommendation
We recommend registering both the Microsoft Authenticator App and a backup phone number. Having two methods ensures you can still access your account if you get a new phone, change your number, or lose access to one of your devices.
