Overview
In this article you will find information about how to add or update recovery methods for your CougarMail account.
You can have a recovery phone number or a recovery email or both. We recommend having at least one recovery method set up.
Starting Out
While signed into your CougarMail, you can find the options to "Manage your Google Account" by clicking your initial in the upper right hand corner.

When you reach the Google Account settings page you will select "Security & sign-in" from the options on the left hand side of the page. It is here you will find options to add or update your Recovery phone or Recovery email. There are also options for 2-Step Verification which we cover in this article.

Recovery Phone
- When you select the option to "Add a mobile phone number" you will be asked to enter your password and then be taken to a page that asks you to "Add recovery phone"

- Clicking that button will open a pop-up with a box to enter a phone number (this needs to be a mobile phone number)
- This pop up also includes a drop-down to change the country code if needed

- The pop up will change and ask you to confirm that you are adding the correct phone number with the option to Save

- After saving the recovery phone will be set up and you can return to this page at any time and click the pencil icon to update your recovery phone number

Recovery Email
-
When you select the option to "Add an email address" you will be asked to enter your password and then be taken to a page that asks you to "Add recovery email"

-
Clicking that button will open a pop-up with a box to enter an email address (this should be a different email address from your CougarMail)

-
After entering your email address it will send you a test email with a code that you must enter on the next screen

-
After confirming the code your recovery email is setup and you can return to this page at any time and click the pencil icon to update your recovery email address
