Apps via Software Center
Overview
This article walks you through the process of installing the Microsoft 365 applications on your Columbia College device using the Software Center.
Applies to: Faculty Staff
Before You Begin
You must be connected to the campus network or VPN for the Software Center to function. Ensure your VPN is active before proceeding if you are working off-campus.
Step-by-Step Guide
Instructions
1 Open Software Center from the Windows Taskbar
On your Columbia College device, search for Software Center in the Windows taskbar search.
●Click the Start button or press the Windows key, then type Software Center in the search bar.
●Select Software Center from the search results to open the application.

2 Select and Install Microsoft 365 Apps
In the Software Center, navigate to the Applications tab and locate the Microsoft 365 Apps package.
●On the Applications tab, select Microsoft 365 Apps only — do not select any other applications.
●This will open a detail screen — click Install to begin the installation.

3 Wait for the Installation to Complete
Installation time will vary depending on your connection speed, but should not take more than 30 minutes.
●Do not close the Software Center or restart your device during installation.
●When the installation is complete, you will see a confirmation screen as shown below.

4 Sign In with Your Columbia College Account
The first time you open any of the newly installed Office applications, you will be prompted to sign in.
●Sign in using your Columbia College email address in the format: username@ccis.edu.
●Complete any additional authentication prompts, including MFA if required.
5 Choose Your Preferred Outlook Version
When opening Outlook for the first time, you will be presented with two version options.
●Outlook Classic provides a traditional look and feel similar to Outlook 2019.
●Outlook (New) is the updated version that more closely resembles the web version of Outlook.
●If you open the new Outlook and prefer to switch back to Outlook Classic, click the toggle in the upper-right corner of the Outlook window.
●If you use specific plugins that are not compatible with the new Outlook, use Outlook Classic instead.
⚠ Network Requirement Reminder
The Software Center requires an active connection to the Columbia College campus network or VPN. If you are working remotely, ensure your VPN is connected before launching Software Center. Installation will not proceed without this connection.
