Overview
This article explains how students can access and join Zoom class meetings through D2L (Desire2Learn). Each course has a unique D2L page with a Zoom Meeting Access widget that connects you directly to your virtual class sessions.
How to:
Accessing Zoom Through D2L
- Log in to D2L and navigate to the homepage for the course you want to attend.
- Locate the Zoom Meeting Access widget on the course homepage.
- Click the link — Zoom will open in a new window or tab and you will be automatically signed in.
💡 Tip: We recommend using Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox for the best Zoom experience.

The Zoom Dashboard
Once Zoom opens, you will see a dashboard with three tabs:

Access recorded meetings (contact your instructor for availability) |

Joining a Meeting
- Make sure you are on the Upcoming Meetings tab.
- Locate your class meeting in the list.
- Click the Join button next to the meeting.
- You may be prompted to download and run Zoom if it is not already installed — follow the on-screen prompts.
Joining Audio
Once inside the meeting, you will be prompted to join the audio. You have two options:
- Computer Audio – Use your device's microphone and speakers (recommended)
- Phone Call – Click Phone Call, dial the number provided, and enter the Meeting ID when prompted
Renaming Yourself in a Meeting
If your display name needs to be updated:
- Open the Participants panel.
- Hover over your name and click More.
- Select Rename.
- Enter your preferred name and click OK.
