Docking Station Setup
This guide will walk through how to setup a laptop and docking station. It will cover how to assemble the monitors, what ports to hook the monitor cables into, how to prepare the docking station for the laptop and how to install the laptop onto the docking station. It will also cover how to hook up a keyboard and mouse to the docking station.
Assembling the monitors
There will be two monitors. If the monitor is assembled with cables attached, skip to Setting up the docking station If it is not assembled, locate the screen, base, and cables. Then follow all steps below.
To assemble the monitor take the screen and align the back with the tabs that stick out of the mount of the base.
Once the monitor is sitting on the tabs, hold the back of the base with one hand and gently press on the bottom of the monitor with the other until you hear it click into place.
Next face one of the monitors towards you and gently rotate the display clockwise. Until the bottom of the monitor is facing sidewise.
Find a monitor power cable, USB cable, and video cable. Note: There may be two different type of video cables. You will only need to pick one of them. You will need to be able to plug it into a port on the docking station
- Video Cable
Fish one end of each cable through the cable management hole on the back of the monitor stand. Note: It does not matter which end you use for this step for the monitor cables. Use the trapezoid shaped end of the power and the square shaped end of the USB.
Now hook the cables into the corresponding ports on the back of the monitor.
Gently rotate the display counter clockwise until the Dell written on the bottom of the monitor is right side up again.
Setting up the docking station
There will be one docking station, the rest of the cables, keyboard, mouse, and 2 monitors used for this section.
Position the monitors in a comfortable spot on the desk you will be using. Leave room to either the right or left of the monitors to set the docking station and laptop.
Position the docking station on the desk where you want it.
Grab the non-connected ends of one of the monitor cables (excluding the power cable) and hook them into the back of the docking station. See picture below for help on which cables go where. Also refer back to “Assembling the monitors” step 6 of the monitor setup for a picture showing each cable and its name.

Repeat step 3 for the second monitor’s cables.
Tuck the excess length of cable from the monitors either behind the desk or through any cable management holes to keep them out of the way.
Locate the keyboard and mouse. Position them in a comfortable way and then run the cables to the back of the docking station or the USB ports on the monitor.

Locate your power adapter for the docking station. Plug the ac adapter and all other power cables either into the wall or preferably a power strip.
Fish the other end of the AC adapter up to behind the docking station and insert it into the round power port. See picture in step 3 for location.
For connecting to the internet you may use either Ethernet (wired connection) or Wi-Fi if you have a wireless network. If you are using wireless skip to step 11 otherwise locate a networking cable.
Make sure the cable is connected to a port in the wall and fish it up to the back of the docking station. Go ahead and connect it to the Ethernet port. See picture in step 3 for location.
Finally, to connect the dock to the laptop, connect the USB-C cable on the side of the laptop. This will display the screen from the laptop to the monitors.
