D2L Brightspace Dark Mode Hack

While D2L Brightspace does not have a dark mode, there is a workaround for Chrome users. This Google Chrome browser hack allows you to force dark mode on all sites. Again, this is a hack, not a recommended configuration change.

Enable Auto Dark Mode in Google Chrome

  1. In Chrome, type chrome://flags into the address bar and hit Enter.
  2. This will open the Experiments page. In the Search flags box, type “dark”.
  3. You’ll see an option labeled Auto Dark Mode for Web Contents.
  4. Select Enable (you can try different configurations) and Relaunch
  5. Click Relaunch to restart the browser with the new dark mode applied.

A note of caution!

Please note the use of the word “Hack” and be cautious, as this is not a supported or recommended approach. This could be a bad idea as it will impact all of the pages you visit in Chrome, which you probably don’t want. It may not meet WCAG or ADA compliance requirements for color contrast.
