Body

Overview

Within D2L there is functionality that allows users to get daily email notifications summarizing the activity in their courses, including grades and submitted assignments.  This functionality can greatly assist both students and instructors in keeping track of any updates for their courses.  This article provides a general overview of the functionality, and how to enable these email notifications.

How to:

1. Log in to D2L, click on your profile in the top right corner.  A menu should pop out, from this menu select "Notifications" to be taken to the page where you can manage notification settings.

2. From the notifications settings page you can scroll down to view various notification settings.  By default, your email notifications will be sent to your cougarmail  If you wish to have them sent to a custom email, you can click "Change your email settings" and a window will appear allowing you to enter a custom email address instead (i.e. your personal email).  You can also change the frequency of these emails in a drop down box located further down the page.  This frequency can be set to "Never", "Daily" or "Weekly" depending on your preferences.

3. Scrolling further down the page, lies the "Instant Notifications" options.  This list shows the activity that you will be instantly notified of whenever it happens.  If you wish to be notified of any of these types of course activity as they happen, be sure to fill in the check box next to it.  For example, if you wished to get an email notification for whenever a Quiz is close to being due, you can check the box next to "Quizzes - quiz due date or end date is 2 days away".  This is an effective tool in helping you manage your coursework and knowing whenever it has been graded.

4.  Further down in the settings, we can check a box to automatically use the same settings for future courses.  We can also choose to exclude some courses from the emails if necessary.  To do so you would click on "Manage my course exclusions" located near the bottom of the page.

5.  This will produce a pop up window that asks for which courses you wish to exclude.  The student in this example is not currently in any courses, as such no courses will appear here.  This window will only show courses that you are actively enrolled in.  You can check off any courses you wish to exclude and then click "Close" when you are finished with this menu.

6.  Finally, be sure to click on the "Save" button located at the bottom of the page to save your settings, otherwise they will not be updated.
