How to save your browser favorites and bookmarks from Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Firefox, so that they are not lost when upgrading to Windows 11 or receiving a new device.

Directions for Saving Your Microsoft Edge Favorites 

Open your Microsoft Edge web browser and in the upper right-hand corner of the browser window click the ‘Favorites’ menu button. Then click the ellipsis to show the settings drop down menu and click ‘Export favorites’.

This will bring up a menu to save an HTML file which contains the information about your saved Favorites. Select your ‘I’ drive back up location directly from the left-hand side of this ‘Save As’ menu.

To bring your Favorites back, open your Microsoft Edge web browser and in the upper right-hand corner of the browser window click the ‘Favorites’ menu button. Then click the ellipsis to show the settings drop down menu and click ‘Import favorites’.

This will open a new tab open to the Edge settings page and you will want to select "'Choose what to import' drop down and then select ‘Import from other browsers’

This will give you a new pop-up window with a drop down menu where you want to select ‘Favorites or bookmarks HTML file’ then click the ‘Choose file’ button.

This will open a menu to open a file, this is where you will want to select the HTML file you created previously. After that you are done, and your information will be available on Edge once more.

Directions for Saving Your Firefox Bookmarks 

Open your Firefox web browser and in the upper right-hand corner of the browser window click the three lines to open the menu then select the Bookmarks section.

This will open a new menu with all your Bookmarks and at the bottom of this menu select ‘Manage Bookmarks’

This will now open a separate ‘Library’ window and at the top are options for ‘Import and Backup’. Click to open this drop down menu and select ‘Backup...’.

This will bring up a menu to save a JSON file which contains the information about your saved Bookmarks. Select your ‘I drive’ back up location directly from the left-hand side of this ‘Save As’ menu.

To bring your Bookmarks back open your Firefox web browser and in the upper right-hand corner of the browser window click the three lines to open the menu, then find the Bookmarks section.

This will open a new menu with all your Bookmarks and at the bottom of this menu select  ‘Manage Bookmarks’

This will now open a separate ‘Library’ window and at the top are options for ‘Import and Backup’. Click to open this drop down menu and select ‘Restore’. If you see the JSON backup file, select it.

If you did not see the backup JSON file in list click ‘Choose File...’

This will open a menu to open a file, this is where you will want to select the JSON file you created previously.

You will receive this informational dialogue box where you should click the ‘Ok’ button and after that you are done, and your information will be available on Firefox once more.

Directions for Saving Your Google Chrome Bookmarks 

Open your Google Chrome web browser and in the upper right-hand corner of the browser window click the vertical ‘Menu’ ellipsis. Then go down to the ‘Bookmarks and lists’ section to open a pop-side menu where you can select the ‘Bookmark manager’.

In the Bookmark Manager screen, select the second vertical ellipsis pop-up menu where you can select ‘Export bookmarks’

This will bring up a menu to save an HTML file which contains the information about your saved Bookmarks. Select your ‘I’ drive back up location directly from the left-hand side of this ‘Save As’ menu.
