Microsoft Outlook - Export/Import Inbox Rules

Summary

This article details how to import or export rules for Outlook between versions. 

PLEASE NOTE: Importing and exporting rules is not supported in Microsoft 365 or Outlook on the web. This feature is available only in Classic Outlook. Rules must be created manually via Microsoft 365. 

How to: (Microsoft Classic Only)

1. In Outlook, hit “File”, on the Info tab, hit “Manage Rules & Alerts”
2. On the “Rules and Alerts” popup box, under the “Email Rules” tab, click “Options”
3. Hit the “Export Rules” button, choose an area to save your rules
   • Preferably your “I:” drive or in OneDrive.
4. Import rules from the same area, just follow the same instructions and hit the “Import Rules” button instead of the “Export Rules” button.
