Cougar Mail - How to create rules/filters for inboxes

Overview

You may wish to use rules or filters to better organize the emails in your cougarmail inbox.  This is also the only way to make announcements and automatic notifications not visible. 

 

How to:

1. Open your Cougar Mail using either the myPortal widget or going to mail.google.com and logging in with yourusername@cougars.ccis.edu and your myPortal password.  

2. From the inbox page, click on the filter icon in the search bar at the top. 

3. Next, the filter/search parameters menu will appear beneath the search bar.  In here enter any information you wish to filter emails by.  For this example we are filtering by "sender: noreply@ccis.edu".  Click "create filter" once you have entered the parameters. 

4. The next menu will give you a checklist of what filters you wish to apply to the messages within the previously established parameters.  Check the box next to the action(s) you wish to apply to the filtered messages.  If you wish to apply this to all previous messages within this filter, please click on the bottom checkbox, otherwise this will only apply to incoming messages that meet the filter.  

5. After following these steps, you should have correctly filtered these emails.
