MFA - Set up FIDO Key for Authentication Method

Overview

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) requires users to sign-in using multiple different types of authentication methods besides just a password.  This makes signing in more secure and helps prevent hackers from accessing data. You can go in and add MFA methods to your account.  The steps below will detail how to do that.

How to:

Section 1.  Add a FIDO2 Key Authentication Method

  • With this method of authentication, users will need to setup the fob themselves, since the process requires them to manually tap the button on the fob, and to put in a PIN for it.
  • Users will need to navigate to https://aka.ms/mysecurityinfo to login and setup the fob.
    • If you have never set up MFA and are needing to setup a key, you will need to contact the Solutions Center at 573-875-4357 so that we can provide you with a temporary key
  • Click “Add sign-in method” and choose “Security key” for the method.
  • Then choose the option “USB device” and hit next
    • Plug the FIDO key into your USB port if you haven’t done so already.
  • Depending on the web browser you use, the prompts for the key setup will look different.
    • In Chrome, choose the option “External security key or built-in sensor

  • You will need to create a PIN for the key
    • Do no forget this pin, if you do forget the pin then the FIDO key will need to be completely reset.
  • You will then need to touch the blinking logo on the security key for the next part.
    • You just need to touch it or click it once, no need to hold it.
  • After all that, they should be setup
    • Please  test by opening an Incognito or InPrivate browser session and logging into MyPortal.
